Dermal Filler Treatments in San Jose, CA
Volume Where It's Needed. Natural Where It Matters. Never More Than Enough.
Dermal fillers are one of the most powerful tools in aesthetic medicine — and one of the most misused. At Modern Aesthetics in San Jose, every filler treatment is guided by one principle: enhance what's there, restore what's been lost, and never cross the line into "too much." No duck lips. No overfilled cheeks. Just thoughtful, anatomy-driven results that look like you — at your best.
Every treatment is performed personally by Sheri Rocha, PA-C, a dermatology-trained provider with nearly 9 years of experience who will tell you honestly what you need, what you don't, and what will actually make a difference for your face.
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. Most are made from hyaluronic acid (HA) — a substance naturally found in the skin that supports hydration, structure, and elasticity.
As we age, we gradually lose collagen, fat, and bone density in the face. Fillers help address this loss by rebuilding structure and adding volume precisely where it's needed — not everywhere at once. When placed correctly, results look completely natural. When placed incorrectly — or excessively — they don't.
At Modern Aesthetics, filler is always used in moderation and only where it will genuinely improve facial balance. Your provider will never add volume for the sake of it.
Products We Use
Our Filler Collection
At Modern Aesthetics, we carry an intentionally curated selection of the most trusted, clinically backed HA fillers available:
Juvéderm Collection — One of the most widely recognized filler families in the world, offering a range of formulations for lips, cheeks, jawline, and deeper facial structure. Known for smooth, natural integration and long-lasting results.
RHA Collection (Redensity, RHA 2, 3, 4) — A newer generation of resilient hyaluronic acid fillers specifically designed to move with your face rather than against it. Ideal for dynamic areas that require flexibility — like around the mouth and lips. RHA fillers are formulated to mimic the natural HA found in your skin more closely than traditional fillers.
Skinvive by Juvéderm — Unlike traditional fillers that add volume, Skinvive is an intradermal microinjection treatment designed to improve skin quality from within. It delivers deep hydration, improves skin texture, and creates a natural lit-from-within glow — without adding fullness or changing your features. Think of it as a treatment for your skin health, not your structure. A great standalone option or complement to traditional filler treatments.
During your consultation, Sheri will recommend the right product — or combination of products — based on your anatomy, goals, and the specific areas being treated.
How It Works?
Every filler treatment at Modern Aesthetics begins with a thorough facial assessment — evaluating your bone structure, existing volume, skin quality, and overall facial balance. This isn't a quick look in the mirror. It's a detailed analysis of what your face needs and, just as importantly, what it doesn't.
Treatments are performed using both needles and cannulas depending on the area and technique required. Cannulas — blunt-tipped instruments used in certain areas — offer an added layer of safety and precision, and are preferred by experienced injectors for specific treatment zones.
If you come in with existing filler that doesn't look right, Sheri will tell you — professionally, honestly, and without judgment. Using photos from multiple angles and before/after examples of dissolving and refilling, she'll show you exactly what she's seeing and discuss the best path forward. Several patients have specifically thanked her for catching their filler blindness before it went further — and for helping them reset and start fresh.
If dissolving is needed before treating, Hylenex (hyaluronidase) is available to safely and effectively dissolve existing HA filler.
What to expect:
Full facial assessment before every treatment
Honest recommendations — including when filler is NOT the answer
Both needles and cannulas are used depending on area and technique
Hylenex available for dissolving existing filler when needed
Appointments typically completed in under 60 minutes
Immediate visible improvement with continued refinement over 2–4 weeks
Personal follow-up after every treatment
Where We Treat
Dermal fillers are far more versatile than most patients realize. At Modern Aesthetics, Sheri treats a comprehensive range of areas using an anatomy-driven, conservative approach:
Lips & Mouth Area
Lip volume and definition — natural fullness, never overdone
Lip lines (perioral lines) — softening vertical lines around the mouth
Lip border definition
Face & Facial Structure
Cheeks and midface — restoring lost volume naturally
Temples — restoring volume that supports overall facial balance and frames the face
Forehead and lateral forehead — subtle volumization for a smoother, more youthful contour
Jawline — definition and contouring
Chin — projection and balance
Deep piriform space — rather than filling nasolabial folds directly (which can create an unnatural, overfilled appearance), Sheri often addresses the deep piriform space — the structural area above the fold. This lifts and supports the fold from underneath, producing a more natural result with less product and better long-term outcomes.
Marionette lines
Nasolabial folds — when appropriate
Under-Eye Area
Tear trough (under-eye hollows) — for appropriate candidates only. Often the most effective approach isn't filling the tear trough directly, but restoring volume in the surrounding areas — cheeks, midface, temples — to naturally lift and support the under-eye region. Your consultation will determine which approach is right for your anatomy.
Neck
Neck lines — softening horizontal neck lines for a smoother, more refreshed appearance
Hands & Ears
Hands — restoring lost volume to minimize the appearance of prominent veins and tendons. One of the most overlooked anti-aging treatments — your face can look refreshed while your hands give away your age. Filler changes that.
Earlobes — restoring volume and structure to earlobes that have thinned, stretched, or lost support over time. A small treatment with a surprisingly noticeable difference.
Skin Quality
Skinvive microinjections — for overall skin hydration, texture, and glow without adding volume
A Note on Nose Filler
Non-surgical rhinoplasty (nose filler) is a treatment we intentionally do not offer at Modern Aesthetics. Given the higher risk of serious complications in this area — including the risk of vascular occlusion — we believe surgical rhinoplasty with a board-certified plastic surgeon is the safer, more appropriate path for patients seeking nose reshaping. We're happy to discuss referrals.
Why Choose Modern Aesthetics?
Filler is only as good as the eye and hands behind it — and the honesty of the provider recommending it.
At Modern Aesthetics, Sheri Rocha, PA-C brings nearly 9 years of derm-trained experience and a philosophy that puts your long-term results above everything else. That means she'll recommend filler only where it will genuinely improve your facial balance. It means she'll tell you when you have too much already. And it means she'll never let you leave looking like someone other than yourself.
Filler blindness — the gradual accumulation of too much product over time, often unnoticed by the patient — is one of the most common and preventable problems in aesthetic medicine. It's also something Sheri takes seriously. If she sees it, she'll say something. Because that's what a provider who actually cares about your outcome does.
Here’s what patients say:
"I love my lips, so happy."
"I was scared/nervous to do fillers. Sheri took the time to explain everything throughout the entire treatment. I am beyoooond satisfied with the results! I brag about her to everyone."
"Sheri gave me the BEST filler experience! She was so knowledgeable and made me feel extremely comfortable... She is truly so experienced in her work and cares about your needs and wants."

FAQs
-
We carry the full Juvederm collection, the RHA Collection (Redensity, RHA 2, 3, and 4), and Skinvive by Juvederm. All are FDA-approved hyaluronic acid-based treatments. During your consultation, Sheri will recommend the right product for your specific goals and anatomy.
-
Both are excellent HA fillers, but they have different properties. Juvederm fillers are known for smooth, long-lasting volume restoration and work beautifully in areas like cheeks, lips, and jawline. The RHA Collection is a newer generation of resilient HA designed to flex and move with your facial expressions — making it ideal for dynamic areas like around the mouth. Sheri will help determine which product is best suited for your specific treatment areas.
-
Skinvive is not a traditional volumizing filler — it's an intradermal microinjection treatment that improves skin quality, hydration, and texture from within. It doesn't add volume or change your features. Instead it creates a natural, healthy glow and smoother skin texture. It's a wonderful standalone treatment or complement to traditional filler.
-
Most patients find filler treatments very manageable. All Juvederm and RHA fillers contain lidocaine, which helps minimize discomfort during injection. Topical numbing is also applied before treatment. Both needles and cannulas are used depending on the area — cannulas in particular tend to be more comfortable in sensitive zones.
-
Most patients experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising in the days following treatment — particularly with lip filler. This typically resolves within a few days to a week. Planning around important events is always a good idea. Lips tend to have the most visible initial swelling, so patience for 2 weeks to see the true result is key.
-
Results vary by product and area treated. FDA guidelines indicate that HA fillers typically last anywhere from 6 to 18+ months. In practice however, most patients at Modern Aesthetics notice results lasting longer than expected — often well beyond the standard timeframe. The exception is lip filler, which tends to metabolize faster due to the high movement in that area and generally requires more frequent touch-ups than other treatment zones. Skinvive results typically last around 6 months. Your consultation will include a realistic expectation for your specific treatment plan and the areas being addressed.
-
Yes. Hylenex (hyaluronidase) is available at Modern Aesthetics to safely dissolve HA filler when needed. This may be recommended if existing filler doesn't look right, has migrated, or needs to be cleared before a fresh treatment plan. Dissolving is a normal part of aesthetic medicine — not a failure.
-
Come in for a consultation. Sheri will assess your existing filler honestly and professionally — using photos from multiple angles to show you exactly what she's seeing. If dissolving and starting fresh is the right approach, she'll walk you through exactly what that looks like. Many patients have found this reset to be one of the best decisions they've made.

Most healthy adults looking to restore volume, enhance facial balance, or address specific concerns like lip definition or jawline contouring are good candidates. Filler is not one-size-fits-all — a consultation with Sheri will determine what's right for your face, your anatomy, and your goals.
Disclaimer: Dermal fillers are injectable treatments intended to enhance facial features, restore volume, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Results and the duration of effects can vary based on individual factors, including skin type, the area treated, and the specific filler used. Common side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the injection sites, which are typically mild and resolve within a few days. In rare instances, more severe side effects such as infection, filler migration, or vascular complications may occur.
It is essential to have a detailed consultation with a qualified healthcare provider to determine if dermal fillers are appropriate for you and to discuss the potential risks and benefits.
