Let’s Be Honest About Skincare

Let's be honest about something: the skincare market is oversaturated, repetitive, and full of products that look impressive on a shelf but don't actually move the needle for your skin.

Sephora carries brands that influencers recommend — not derm practices. Amazon can send you counterfeit or improperly stored products. And over-the-counter formulations, while better than nothing, rarely contain the potency or clinical backing to produce real, visible change.

If you're already using something that works for you — great, keep using it. But the reality is that you're in a medical aesthetic practice for a reason. Using more potent, clinically studied ingredients alongside your treatments can be the difference between results that plateau and results that actually get you where you want to go.

At Modern Aesthetics, every product on our shelf had to earn its place. Sheri personally evaluates every brand she carries — looking for new technology, proprietary formulations, clinical backing, and proven results. If a product doesn't outperform what's already out there, it doesn't make the cut. Simple as that.

Skincare Consultations — In-Person & Virtual

Skincare consultations at Modern Aesthetics are available as a standalone appointment — you don't need to be a treatment patient to get personalized product guidance. Some patients come in purely to overhaul their routine. That's completely welcome.

In-person consultations are preferred — being able to see, touch, and assess your skin directly allows for the most accurate recommendations. Virtual consultations are available upon request for patients who can't make it in.

Whether you're starting from scratch, dealing with a specific concern, or just want to make sure what you're using at home is actually working — a consultation with Sheri will give you a clear, honest plan without the pressure to buy everything at once.

What We Carry — And Why

Every brand at Modern Aesthetics was chosen deliberately. Here's what we carry and why it made the shelf:

Hydrinity

Hydrinity is a physician-developed skincare line built around hyaluronic acid science — but not the kind you've seen before. Their formulations use proprietary HA technology designed to penetrate more effectively and deliver visible hydration, plumping, and skin barrier support at a clinical level.

Results speak for themselves:

"I have never tried something that has worked so quickly — with visible differences in as little as 2 weeks." — Modern Aesthetics Patient, Hydrinity

Colorescience

Colorescience is not your average SPF brand. Their formulations are built around mineral-based sun protection with clinical-grade ingredients — and their flagship product, the Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Brush-On Shield SPF 50, holds a distinction most sunscreens can only dream of: it is the only powder sunscreen recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation for active use.

Why does this matter for Bay Area patients specifically? Recent studies show that only tinted mineral sunscreens provide protection against blue light (HEV) — the kind emitted by computer screens, phones, and other digital devices. If you work in tech, spend long hours at a screen, or simply live in the modern world, this is not a detail to overlook.

Colorescience products are also reef-safe and recommended by the American Cancer Society — making them a choice you can feel good about beyond just your skin.

"I love their Flex products. What I love about Colorescience is that they're recommended by the American Cancer Society, and their products are reef-safe. Studies show that only tinted mineral sunscreens protect against blue light — this is so important for all my computer workers and techies." — Modern Aesthetics Patient

Modern Aesthetics Private Label

Our private label line was built because no single brand had everything we wanted in one place. Every product in the Modern Aesthetics collection was formulated to clinical standards — potent enough to produce real results, thoughtfully developed for the patients we treat every day.

The Modern Aesthetics collection includes:

  • Retinoin Treatment — prescription-strength retinoid for cell turnover, collagen stimulation, and long-term skin renewal

  • 20% Vitamin C Serum — high-potency antioxidant protection and brightening, formulated for stability and absorption

  • Lipid Soft Cream — barrier-restoring moisturizer for dry, compromised, or post-procedure skin

  • Papaya Enzyme Gentle Cleanser — enzymatic cleansing that removes dead skin cells without stripping the skin barrier

  • Brightening Pads — convenient, effective exfoliation and tone-evening for daily use

  • Customized Hydroquinone — a prescription melanin-inhibiting treatment customized per patient, ranging from 2–12% depending on your skin type, ethnicity, and specific pigmentation concern. This is a clinical-grade formulation that requires a provider assessment — not something you'll find over the counter or on Amazon.

"Only your products made the impact to restore my smooth skin. I don't think I will ever change now that I see how it healed my face again." — Modern Aesthetics Patient, Private Label

LightStim

As covered on our Red Light Therapy page, we carry the LightStim for Wrinkles handheld device for at-home use — available for purchase in-office or drop-shipped directly to you. Built on NASA-originated LED technology and advanced with LightStim's patented MultiWave® system, it's the most versatile at-home red light device we've found — usable on the face, neck, décolletage, hands, and body.

MSRP $249 | Available in-office or via drop-ship

Skin Health From the Inside Out — Thorne Supplements

Great skin isn't built from the outside alone. What you put into your body matters just as much as what you put on it — and the supplement market has the same problem as the skincare market: it's full of products that underpromise, underdeliver, and in some cases contain little more than filler.

At Modern Aesthetics, we recommend and carry Thorne supplements — a brand Sheri uses personally and trusts clinically. Here's why Thorne stands apart:

  • Mayo Clinic partnership — Thorne works closely with Mayo Clinic, one of the most respected medical institutions in the world, to develop and validate their formulations

  • Elite athlete validation — Thorne is the supplement partner of Olympic teams and professional athletic organizations including the UFC. When elite athletes and their medical teams trust a brand with their performance and recovery, that says something

  • Third-party tested — every Thorne product is tested for potency, purity, and accuracy of content. This matters more than most people realize — some multivitamins on the market contain little to none of what they claim on the label

  • No unnecessary fillers — Thorne formulations are pharmaceutical-grade, free from the additives and fillers common in mass-market supplements

"I personally use Thorne myself — and I can genuinely feel a difference in my body if I forget to take them for several days in a row. That's not something I can say about every supplement brand I've tried." — Sheri Rocha, PA-C

Why Choose Modern Aesthetics

Every product Sheri carries has been personally evaluated, tested, and approved against a standard most brands don't meet. New technology, proprietary formulations, clinical evidence, and real results — that's the bar. If a brand can't clear it, it doesn't make the shelf.

The result is a curated collection that works together — not a random assortment of whatever's trending. Whether you're building a routine from scratch, supporting your treatment results at home, or looking for prescription-strength options you can't access anywhere else, Modern Aesthetics has what you actually need.

FAQs

  • Professional-grade skincare contains higher concentrations of active ingredients, clinically studied formulations, and in some cases prescription-strength components that simply aren't available over the counter. Products sold at Sephora are formulated for a general consumer audience and often recommended based on marketing and influencer partnerships rather than clinical evidence. Products purchased on Amazon carry a real risk of being counterfeit or improperly stored. Medical-grade skincare purchased through a provider's office is authentic, potent, and selected specifically for your skin.

  • We carry Hydrinity, Colorescience, the Modern Aesthetics private label collection, and LightStim devices. We also offer access to Thorne supplements through our dedicated ordering page. Every brand was personally selected by Sheri based on clinical performance, proprietary technology, and proven results.

  • Our private label collection includes a retinoin treatment, 20% vitamin C serum, lipid soft cream, papaya enzyme gentle cleanser, brightening pads, and customized prescription hydroquinone. The hydroquinone is particularly significant — it's a prescription melanin-inhibiting treatment formulated specifically for your skin type, ethnicity, and pigmentation concern, ranging from 2–12% strength. This level of customization is not available over the counter.

  • Colorescience uses mineral-based sun protection with clinical-grade formulations. Their Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Brush-On Shield SPF 50 is the only powder sunscreen recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation for active use. Their products are also reef-safe and recommended by the American Cancer Society. Additionally, recent studies show that only tinted mineral sunscreens provide protection against blue light (HEV) — which is particularly relevant for patients who spend significant time in front of screens.

  • No — skincare consultations are available as standalone appointments. Some patients come to Modern Aesthetics purely for product guidance and routine building. You're welcome whether you're a longtime treatment patient or someone who just wants honest, expert skincare advice.

  • In-person consultations are preferred — being able to see and assess your skin directly allows for the most accurate recommendations. Virtual consultations are available upon request for patients who are unable to come in.

  • Thorne works closely with Mayo Clinic and is the supplement partner of Olympic teams and professional athletic organizations including the UFC. Every product is third-party tested for potency and purity — something many supplement brands skip entirely. Sheri personally uses Thorne and recommends it because she trusts it clinically and has experienced the difference firsthand.

  • Yes — skincare products and LightStim devices are available for purchase in-office or through our online shop. Prescription products including customized hydroquinone require a provider assessment before purchase. Thorne supplements can be ordered directly through our Thorne page under Shop & Resources.

  • Item descriptionA consultation is the best way to determine exactly what your skin needs. Sheri will assess your skin type, concerns, current routine, and goals to recommend the products — and the order of application — that will actually make a difference for your specific skin. No guessing, no generic recommendations.
